Get an Overview of Windows Shortcut Keys with ActiveHotKeys

Most people don’t know it, but there are dozens and dozens of Windows shortcut/hotkeys out there for you to use. Whether it be using the Win, Ctrl, Alt or Shift, there are plenty to choose from. The issue that most have with it though, is that none of us really know what they are and some of us want to create our own with the available ones.

ActiveHotKeys is a simple and free application that can give you a quick and easy overview of your entire plethora of shortcut keys. Whether it be a couple key strokes with the Win key, or a few with Ctrl-Alt-Shift, this application will display them all and help you take advantage of the ones that you’re not using on a regular basis.

This program does not however list what particular application a shortcut key may be registered for, and it also does not allow you to create your own. It’s a just an easy way to get a quick look at the ones that you can presently take advantage of.

Device Remover is the Best Windows Device Manager Alternative

One of the many built-in Windows system tools that still lacks in many ways, is the Windows Device Manager. Getting to the deep down details of the hardware installed on your system can be annoying via the default Windows method. I’ve previously seen many alternatives to other utilities within Windows, but none in particular for the Device Manager. That’s why Device Remover caught me off guard, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Device Remover is an incredibly in depth Windows Device Manager alternative that gives you many more features than the one built-in. Easy removal, driver views, troubleshooting and mass editing of multiple devices makes this easily one of the best of it’s kind out there. The best part of it is that it appears to be compatible with every version of Windows, XP and beyond, including Windows 7.

It’d be a great utility to have on a small or large network for quick troubleshooting of hardware devices on a Windows PC.

Extend Your Taskbar to Multiple Monitors – MultiMonitor TaskBar

It’s hard to believe that with as cheap and as popular as LCD monitors are becoming, that an application such as Multimonitor Taskbar, hasn’t come along with several other competitors. My old job I used a dual monitor setup, but always found it extremely annoying that the Windows Taskbar did not extend to the second monitor. I did my research and came up with the amazing application, called UltraMon. Ultramon simply extended your taskbar to your second, third, or sixth monitor, and display the application as it should, on the secondary monitor. The fallback, a single license ran $39.95 and although worth it, was still a lot of money for what it did. I spent hours, days and months trying to find a freeware app, that did the same thing, but never did.

Well finally, just a few years later…Martin, the genius over at GHacks has finally come up with a free application that does the same thing.

The program is simply called ‘MultiMonitor Taskbar’ and does everything that Ultramon does, offers a freeware version, but also offers a Pro version. The pro version adds theme support, more flexibility with windows movement, and a few other minor features. The free version gives you essentially everything you need, and much more.

So, if you do have multiple monitors and are using Windows Vista or XP, you need to jump on this incredibly user friendly and stable application.

EasyCapture – Finally found the best ‘Screen Shot’ Freeware

So, since I first used one of the best paid versions of ScreenShot software called Fullshot, I have been waiting and looking to see if anyone has anything close to it. Well, I think I have finally found it, and it’s called Easy Capture.

One of the features I loved about FullShot, was the built-in buttons the placed in title bar of every single page that you were viewing. EasyCapture doesn’t quite have this yet, but it has simple ‘Hot Key’s’ and a simple right-click option with the icon in the system tray, to capture:

Capture full screen, active window.

Capture windows, buttons, toolbar, controls and other windows objects.

Capture selected region.

Capture scrolling windows and entire web pages.

Capture fix-size region.
