As any support technician can probably attest, one of the most common questions that is asked in a business environment is “Can I convert a PDF file to Word?”. The question in a lot of ways is wrong, because typically PDF is provided as an added form of security to any documents or files that you’ve created.

They are typically used as a form to fill out, or simply as a read-only document. The other benefit is that it’s a universal format, that can be opened with PDF reading application, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. There are however certain situations where one has a PDF file created and they don’t have their original document

There are several commercial and free applications that claim to do this, but we are becoming lazy and would prefer to restrict ourselves to the handiness of online apps. This is where the incredibly simple online ‘ConverPDFtoWord.net‘ does the job.

There are other options out there, but most require some type of registration or e-mail address. ConvertPDFtoWord.net asks simply for your PDF file, converts it, and then prompts you to download the document.

I tested it with a few local files on my PC, and it worked like a champ. Granted, most of these have difficulty with special formatting, so it doesn’t do a perfect job, but does get it done.

OpenOffice 3.0 Officially Launched Today

Although it was big buzz last week, as OpenOffice, the Open Source Microsoft Office competitor, began deployment of version 3.0 of their incredibly popular suite. It wasn’t officially launched until today, where it has brought plenty of excellent new features with it.
