Any time a new installation is needed on any version of Windows, people tend to hold their breath or cross their fingers, hoping that it won’t screw up their computer. And as we all know, malware can really screw up your system as well, especially when it does so without your knowledge. It would be nice to see any modifications made to a system in real-time. SpyMe Tools does just that.

SpyMe Tools is an application to monitor any registry and disk changes to the system. If anything is installed your PC, SpyMe is able to detect such modifications. Which can become particularly handy when it comes to adware, spyware and just about every other file change at any given point and time.

They do this by constantly looking for changes in your computer and “dumping” them during the various states that it is in. The type of procedure it uses, also makes it work very well for registry backup purposes as well. The dump files are encrypted so that any authorized access cannot look at the specific changes made to the system.

There have been many times where I’ve wanted to clean the slate and empty a folder on the desktop or my docs. For whatever reason, I need to import new files with updated files or I just simply want the folder to be empty. Unfortunately the only way of going about this is by manually deleting all of the files in the folder. Not anymore…

A simple Windows registry hack allows you to empty the contents of a folder, as you would the recycle bin. Follow these simple instructions for Windows XP and Vista:

Right-Click on the desktop and select New>Text Document.

Double-Click on the text document and paste the following code in:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Delete Folder Contents]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Delete Folder Contents\command]
@=”cmd /c \”cd /d %1 && del /s /q *.*”

After applying that code, make sure you save the file as a .REG file, not a .TXT file.

That’s all it takes. You’ll now have the option on your right-click context menu.

A quick hack to get you emptying folders at will.

The image below, pretty much tells it all, but the application I’m bring you today is called RegJump, and it’s brought to you by Microsoft(Systernals) ironically.

I’ve wanted something like this for quite a while, but am now just discovering it. RegJump is a simple command utlity that allows you to browse directly to a registry ‘path’ without the need of digging. What WinHelpOnline has done, is given instructions on adding this awesome Windows utility to your right-click context menu. The problem is however that it is only compatible with Internet Explorer, and isn’t installed on every computer in the world. I really need this application when I’m at a machine that requires a registry edit and don’t want to browse through the deep and annoying registry.

I plan to implement RegJump and these below instructions to each and every PC I setup from now on.

Windows XP

1. Download regjump_xp.zip, unzip and extract the contents to a folder.

2. Double-click regjump.reg to run it.

3. Move the file regjump.htm to the C:\Windows\Web directory.

Windows Vista

1. Download regjump_vista.zip, unzip and extract the contents to a folder.

2. Double-click regjump.reg to run it.

3. Move the file regjump.htm to the C:\Windows\Web directory.
