Browse iTunes without the Actual Application

There is no denying that iTunes is a massive marketplace. Music, Movies, Books, Podcasts and the quickly growing App store is making it the goto location for everything media related. One of the biggest problems with it’s huge growth and continual addition of features, is really turning it into a bloated monster. Fortunately someone has come up with a way to browse the iTunes store without the need for the application. Only a simple web browser.

It is simply labeled as ‘App Store’ and it doesn’t look all that much different than iTunes itself. It looks very similar and acts in all the same similar manners, except for the integrated search. When you find something you like, clicking on a link takes you directly into iTunes. It makes browsing the iTunes store for your next favorite piece of media, very easy.

Find Your Next Instant Netflix Movie with InstantWatcher

Netflix is far and away the largest online DVD rental service in the world. The ease of use and access online, has spread it like wildfire across the United States. One of the huge benefits of a Netflix account is the ability to watch thousands of movies instantly as well. Although accessing and playing these movies is very easy, Netflix is still lacking in the organization and search department. Fortuantely within the past six months, they finally released their API in order for third party users to create their own online apps for the web and including the iPhone. One of those applications based upon this new API is InstantWatcher.

InstantWatcher strips out images and displays movies in a much simpler text format. One of the biggest capabilities that InstantWatcher adds is it’s sorting. I’m sure Netflix will at some point add similar features, but at this point this is the best place to stop.

Streaming Netflix on the PS3

So, who would have thunk it. I was sitting at my office early this afternoon talking about streaming Netflix with a few of my co-workers, and we began talking about a few of the options. We talked about the Roku, we talked about the XBOX 360, and we talked about a couple of other things. I then brought up my PS3 to the most tech savy of my co-workers and he though there was no way it would ever happen due to their Playstation Store. I agreed, and didn’t think much of it again, until I got home.

When I got home, I did a quick search on PS3 streaming Netflix, and quickly found the Media Server from PlayOn. It is a PC Add-on that allows you to not only stream Netflix, Hulu, CBS, YouTube and CBS, but allows you to do it on your PS3, XBOX 360, HP MediaSmart TV and possibly your Nintendo Wii, in the not so distant future.

The program is in Beta and it does come with a 30 day trial($30 After), but it truly does work as advertised. Granted, it’s probably only a matter of time before Netflix hooks up with Sony and the Playstation 3, but this is an amazing alternative in the meantime, and you need to check it out.
